Carrier Oils
When essential oils are used for massage they need to be mixed with a carrier oil, as essential oils are too powerful to be used undiluted on the skin. A carrier oil can be almost any vegetable oil. Those used most often are, Sunflower, Sweet Almond or Grapeseed Oils. The safe ratio is 20mls of carrier oil to 10 drops of Essential oil. You can use up to 4 different essential oils in one blend making sure collectively you still use only 10 drops of essential oil.
To Work Out Dilutions
To use a 1% safe dilution, half the amount of carrier oil to get the required number of essential oil drops. 100mls of sunflower oil and 50 drops of essential oil = 1% dilution
