Massage
is the recent name for the ancient established art of healing by touch.
The Chinese, Indians and Egyptians used it as a method of maintaining
health and curing disease.
Professional touch,
through massage, satisfies the same psychological needs as a hug or a
cuddle that we need to cheer us up when we are down. Children who hurt
themselves believe that when their parents rub the sore spot, they take
the pain away.
Massage is calming,
soothing and improves our sense of well-being by reducing cortisol
(stress hormone) levels within the body. It also strengthens the Immune
System by bringing more white blood cells into the circulation, and
this in turn helps to fight infection. It also improves joint mobility,
releases muscle tension, and helps get rid of toxins.
There are many
different types of massage, from gentle to extremely deep. Be sure you
know before you make an appointment the type of treatment you are
looking for. If in doubt - ask.
Swedish Massage
This is the most
common form of massage. It can be quite deep and like all therapies is
very much client led. Sessions normally finish off with a series of
stimulating movements. This massage can be invigorating and show great
results.
Good for
relaxation, tension relief, backache and aching muscles - a great tonic
for the muscles.
Aromatherapy
This is the use of
essential oils that are found in plants, flowers and trees, which
promote and maintain health. Aromatherapy has been used as a healing
technique for 1000’s of years. During an Aromatherapy massage, the skin
absorbs the oils quickly into the blood stream and can give immediate
relief. Aromatherapy massage is good for all sorts of conditions and
should be used with caution and moderation. Click here to know more about Essential Oils and Aromatherapy.
Indian Head
Massage
This massage
concentrates on the head, face, scalp, neck and shoulders, where
tension is likely to accumulate. The session can take between 20 to 40
minutes and is good for headaches, healthy hair, improving
concentration and promoting tension release. A great stress buster.
Reflexology
Reflexology is
based on the idea that all the organs of the body are mirrored in the
feet and hands and by working on the reflex points, the therapist can
stimulate the body to begin healing itself and keep healthy. The body
is split into 10 different zones - 5 on each foot that run vertically.
When going for a treatment you will be asked to remove your shoes and
socks. The reflexologist examines the feet, gently cleanses them and
begins treatment. By stimulating the reflex points on the feet the
therapist boosts the energy flow throughout the whole body. Like all
therapists, reflexologists don’t diagnose, but at the end of a
treatment are able to tell you the areas that need extra attention. The
feet are usually one of our most neglected areas of the body so this is
a nice treat.
This treatment is
great for reducing stress, increasing energy levels, inducing
relaxation and bringing the body back into balance and much more.
Reiki
Reiki, meaning
“Universal Life Energy”, is a form of energy healing. The Reiki
practitioner channels this life energy through their hands to the
client where it activates the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
Reiki has its own innate intelligence and it works wherever the
recipient needs it most, by releasing blocked energies, cleansing the
body of toxins and working to create a state of balance. The clothes
are left on for this treatment and during a treatment the client can
feel calm and some feel as if they are floating. Where there is an
imbalance of energies, the recipient may feel intense heat. A Reiki
session is different for everyone and the only way to fully appreciate
it is to try a session.
All
of the above therapies incorporate deep abdominal breathing aiding
relaxation and tension release.
